July is always a bit bittersweet
July is always a bit bittersweet… it is the first and only full month of summer vacation. While everything is in full bloom and the days are looooong, there is a sense that we are on the other side of the bell curve.
Last weekend, I took a quick trip to northern Indiana with three of my besties. Even though we were only one hour away, it felt as though we stepped back in time. We drove up to southern Michigan and visited the cutest “market” ever in Sawyer, Michigan. The Michigan blueberries and cherries were as beautiful as they were sweet, and every piece of produce look delicious. I walked through the aisles thinking… “if I had this ‘market’ back home, I wouldn’t mind going to the grocery store.” There was such a quaint, small-town aura about the Sawyer… 1,501 residents strong.
We went to Froehlichs in Three Oaks, Michigan for a very late lunch. It was our third time at this adorable establishment that has been a staple in town for over 30 years. The first time we visited, Lois was our server. Lois is the most adorable 75+ year old woman with the spunk of a 20 year old; she hooked up onto Forelock’s spicy Bloody Mary’s that come with a decadent pimento cheese “sandwich” that is essentially a meal in itself. We drank, we ate, and we caught up… enjoying the easy pace of a lovely summer Sunday afternoon.
I have many travel dreams in my “fun locker,” but sometimes, just a 24-hour jaunt can rejuvenate and refresh when you’re with people you love!
