Colour Conversations is a new series of unique mouth blown glass vases about how colours speak with each other, inspired by Joseph Albers’s studies on visual perception. It reflects on the interaction of colour through its transparent quality and intensity of tones and the beauty of the uncontrolled process of mouth blown glass. These unique vases were made in collaboration with master glass-blowers with more than 30 years of experience, at Marinha Grande, a city in Portugal known for glass production since the 18th century. Each fluid shape is sculpted by hand, without any mould, signed and numbered. Charming small imperfections are part of the artisanal process, showcasing the transparency and layering of colour interactions on mouth blown glass. Every piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and a personal note signed by the author.

Catarina Nogueira Pacheco (1987, Lisbon) is a product designer and creative consultant based in Lisbon, Portugal. Since 2021 Catarina works independently in Lisbon, most recently focusing on her own editions of unique glass pieces, designing new objects for other brands, as well as design services and consultancy for European brands, other designers and creative businesses.

She seeks poetic views on design, playing with materiality, color, shape and cultural contexts of use. Catarina’s practice works across a variety of projects including homeware, furniture, lighting, toys, as well as design research. She is fascinated by different production approaches, with a strong passion for craftsmanship, ranging from custom made pieces on a craft basis to semi-industrial techniques on a bigger scale.
