Green Crater Pattern Pot

Sale price$566

The shape of this wheel-thrown pot is inspired by a Bronze Age Anatolian relief (vase with bulls) that is now at the Ankara museum in Turkey; the pot dates back to the 17th-19th century BC. The decoration is based on a motif that appears on the gorgeous Lekythos of the Classical period of Ancient Greece between the 5th and 4th century BC. The motif is carved and inlaid with a homemade copper carbonate green crater glaze. The piece was fired to 1240°C.
