Making Waves 11

Sale price$3,120

This ceramic series focuses on building shapes that resemble waves: undulating curves, graceful arcs, and fluid lines that evoke the dynamic nature of the ocean. Nadia carefully crafts each piece to capture the essence of a wave, with its ebb and flow... rise and fall. To further emphasize the wave-like forms, Nadia uses etching techniques on the ceramic surface to create intricate patterns of waves - using tools to carefully etch into the clay, adding texture and depth to the pieces. The etchings also serve to convey the movement and energy of the waves, as if they are frozen in time, forever captured in ceramic. One unique aspect of Nadia's ceramic series is that she keeps the color palette predominately white. Not using glaze and leaving the natural color of the clay natural, she emphasizes the shape and form of the waves. This allows the curves and lines to take center stage without distraction. The white color also adds a sense of purity and simplicity to the pieces, enhancing the overall aesthetic and creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Earthenware sculpture, 2024.

About the Maker

Nadia Stieglitz

Nadia Stieglitz embarked on her journey as a ceramic sculptor in an unexpected way. In June 2021, she showcased her work at a pop-up exhibit at the boutique high-end hotel, The Drewberry, in Charleston, SC. Despite having only taken a few pottery classes in 2019, the overwhelmingly positive response to her sculptures ignited her artistic ambitions and propelled her toward further art events and opportunities.
In 2022, Stieglitz's dedication and talent were recognized when she was named the Emerging Artist of Artisphere, a highly-regarded art festival in Greenville, SC. She was also selected for Artfields, a respected art competition and festival in South Carolina created by
financier and philanthropist Darla Moore, in both 2022 and 2023, further cementing her reputation as a rising artist.
