"Demain, Dès L’Aube, À L’Heure Où Blanchit La Campagne, Je Partirai. Vois-Tu, Je Sais Que Tu M’Attends. J’Irai Par La Forêt, J’Irai Par La Montagne. Je Ne Puis Demeurer Loin De Toi Plus Longtemps. Je Marcherai Les Yeux Fixés Sur Mes Pensées, Sans Rien Voir Au Dehors, Sans Entendre Aucun Bruit, Seul, Inconnu, Le Dos Courbé, Les Mains Croisées, Triste, Et Le Jour Pour Moi Sera Comme La Nuit. Je Ne Regarderai Ni L’Or Du Soir Qui Tombe, Ni Les Voiles Au Loin Descendant Vers Harfleur, Et Quand J’Arriverai, Je Mettrai Sur Ta Tombe Un Bouquet De Houx Vert Et De Bruyère En Fleur. — Victor Hugo"

The Voyages Series explores the theme of travel, capturing its essence in each handmade ceramic vase. Through carefully crafted texts inscribed on their surfaces, these vases reflect on the different ways we journey — not only across physical landscapes but also through time, memories, and experiences. Some speak to the excitement of new discoveries, while others evoke the quiet, internal travels we take when we revisit cherished moments from the past. Each piece in the collection invites you to reflect on the importance of travel, whether it’s the movement of the body or the mind, and the lasting impressions these journeys leave behind. Pebble 03 invites text from Victor Hugo's poem "Demain, dès l’aube" (1847). This vessel is made from cream stoneware and is not watertight.

About the Maker

Marie Martin Ceramics

French ceramicist, I now live in Valencia, Spain. I began learning ceramics in 2007 in Shenzhen, China. My first teacher didn’t speak English, he taught me the essentials silently, with his hands, until I finally speak enough Chinese. After eight years in Asia, I moved to San Francisco for three years, exploring materials, forms, and paths to personal expression. I became a full time ceramicist at that time. I have always written on my vessels with clay slip, but the tools I used at first were not allowing me to write long texts. In 2020 I developed a system that allows me to write longer texts with the desired texture, opening many creative possibilities.
