This one-of-a-kind wheel-thrown and coil-built vessel was built with terra sigilatta. Individually fired using discarded sawdust from local furniture makes in Vancouver, British Columbia. This vase highlights the unique patterns and textures imprinted by burning different woods into the clay; the result is a contemporary, yet earthy aesthetic. The vase is made from white stoneware and weighs 3.5 pounds.

About the Maker

Michelle Grimm

Michelle Grimm is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer who primarily works with clay. Her work explores atmospheric firing techniques such as raku, horse hair, saggar pit, soda, and wood firing. Before opening her studio in 2021, Michelle spent a decade in New York’s fashion industry and has also worked in commercial interiors and spatial design. Her focus on art-based interior experiences, materiality and unique processes continue to influence her work.
