Ceiba Lamp

Sale price$880

The Ceiba Lamp pays homage to the Ceiba tree that grows through the forests of Mexico with a trunk armored in thorns: protective, ancient, quietly ferocious. In Mayan cosmology it is the world tree, the axis between earth and sky. The base is handbuilt from clay, each thorn applied by hand, and the whole surface finished in a rough stone glaze that mimics the texture of bark, of lava, of something that has been here longer than the room it stands in. The linen shade above it is the light it was always meant to hold. Handbuilt ceramic base. Hand applied thorns. Stone finish glaze. Natural linen shade, 24" tall overall and 17" in diameter.

About the Maker

Studio Trent Kendrick

Trent Kendrick is a Chicago-based lighting designer and ceramicist. A fourth generation maker, he studied interior design at Harrington College of Design and has built a practice rooted in handmade work — ceramics, lighting, and paintings — all made by hand in his Chicago studio. Each lighting piece is hand-built, combining materials like ceramic, brass, and natural fibres, and designed to feel more like an object than a fixture.
