Chous Ceramics was founded by Despina and Giorgos Chous. The couple is passionate about bringing the beauty of hand-built ceramics to art enthusiasts worldwide. Despite Despina's background in industrial management and banking and Giorgos' background in graphic and web design, they've seamlessly combined their unique skills to create a ceramic studio where art and innovation converge. Despina and Giorgos are inspired by the desire to create truly meaningful pieces.
As their family grew, Despina felt a strong pull towards a more creative and fulfilling life; as such, she left her banking career to pursue her passion for ceramics. With his eye for aesthetics and expertise in design, Giorgos brought a fresh perspective to the handmade pieces. Chous Ceramics opened in the couple's hometown of Sparta, Greece... this felt like the perfect next step! Despina and Giorgos are devoted to creating authentic works of art that celebrate the beauty of nature and human beings' creative spirit.
Dysis
Warm amber tones and the quiet threshold of day’s end inspire the character of Dysis—a name rooted in the ancient Greek word for sunset. Coiled by hand in Sparta using a grog-rich stoneware clay, the vessel builds upon a softly rounded base, expanding into a broad body that culminates in an undulating, expressive rim. Dynamic tension defines its silhouette: a wave-like wall curves gently inward on one side, opposing a crisp geometric notch on the other. This fluid asymmetry ensures that its profile continually evolves as light and perspectives shift. The piece is finished with a refined terra sigillata slip, where a warm apricot exterior deepens into a rich, burnt-orange interior. The matte, tactile surface captures the sun's fading glow, anchoring any room with a calm, grounded aura.
