Chous Ceramics was founded by Despina and Giorgos Chous. The couple is passionate about bringing the beauty of hand-built ceramics to art enthusiasts worldwide. Despite Despina's background in industrial management and banking and Giorgos' background in graphic and web design, they've seamlessly combined their unique skills to create a ceramic studio where art and innovation converge. Despina and Giorgos are inspired by the desire to create truly meaningful pieces.
As their family grew, Despina felt a strong pull towards a more creative and fulfilling life; as such, she left her banking career to pursue her passion for ceramics. With his eye for aesthetics and expertise in design, Giorgos brought a fresh perspective to the handmade pieces. Chous Ceramics opened in the couple's hometown of Sparta, Greece... this felt like the perfect next step! Despina and Giorgos are devoted to creating authentic works of art that celebrate the beauty of nature and human beings' creative spirit.
Lithos
Instead of relying on surface glazes, Lithos derives its character from within: raw blue pigments are infused directly into the stoneware clay prior to shaping, resulting in a muted blue-grey body reminiscent of sea-worn rock. Hand-built in Sparta, the vessel sits on an egg-like base that imparts a sense of quiet gravity. Above this base, the rim ascends dramatically toward a sharp peak—resembling a mountain silhouette—before dipping into a subtle notch and sweeping into a smooth, flowing arc. Left completely unglazed and uncoated, its finely speckled, grog-rich texture offers a tactile homage to raw geological formations and timeless material beauty.
